Oscar Walters, Jr., the founder of Demerara Engineering, PLLC, has over 40 years of structural engineering experience, primarily in the New York City, NY area. Prior to the founding of Demerara Engineering, PLLC, Mr. Walters worked in senior engineering positions with prominent area firms.

For the development of Demerara Engineering, PLLC, Mr. Walters has served as Principal-in-Charge and has been responsible for the structural engineering design of new and rehabilitated industrial, commercial, and residential buildings. He has also managed the design of several community facilities primarily comprised of churches.

Mr. Walters obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in civil and structural engineering from University College Cardiff in Cardiff, UK, and a master's degree in civil engineering from the Polytechnic University of New York, NY.

He's completed continuing education in the areas of foundation engineering, condition assessment of existing buildings, state-of-the-art reinforced concrete, structural steel design, and ground improvement techniques.

In addition to these memberships, he has had extensive committee and seminar involvement. Just recently, he served on a committee for the Structural Engineers Association of New York called "Underpinning of Buildings: Recommendations to the NYC Department of Buildings for Inclusion in the NYC Building Code." He also gave a lecture to the City College Alumni chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers titled "Structural Engineering: The State of the Practice".

Mr. Walters currently provides continuing education seminars for a leading CE provider in the area of shallow foundation design. He is committed to ongoing growth and development in the industry for himself and others.

Mr. Walters has performed structural and foundation engineering design and resident engineering inspection services during the construction of prominent projects. This includes:

• US Weather Service Nexrad Radar Towers (located nationwide)
• Gas-fired power plant in Baku, Azerbaijan
• Merck Pharmaceuticals Complex in Pennsylvania
• 33-Story Supreme Court complex in downtown Brooklyn, NY
